Community OutreachGo therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20 Portland Mennonite Church's hope is to invite others to join with us as we live out our Christian Mennonite faith. It is through the Community Outreach that we can provide the space and opportunity for others to come along with us in connecting our faith to our daily lives. At PMC Community Outreach means doing two things of equal importance; social justice and evangelism. We are committed to teachings of Jesus which invite us to form relationships with others and to share with them the Good News of Jesus. Here are some of PMC's Community Outreach Activities: A Meal with Anawim Christian Fellowship: On the first Tuesday of every month PMC cooks, serves, and sings with those needing a hot meal in the Hawthorne area along with the street ministry of Anawim Christian Fellowship. Welcome Luncheon: Starting in October and ending in April, a lunch is hosted every second Sunday by members of PMC for those who are newer to PMC to get to know others from congregation and vice versa. Peace , Justice, and Environment Committee: This committee highlights and sponsors activities for all to learn ways to promote peace and justice for all living things. Community Christmas Concert: Once a year in December local musicians perform a free Christmas Concert.
Banyan Tree, a fair trade store: The store is located in SW Portland (18 SW 1st Ave), near Saturday Market. Members of PMC along with others work on a volunteer basis to sell hand-made merchandise from artisans around the world and to share the importance of fair trade practices.
Fish Emergency Service: Every third Sunday in each month the people of PMC bring needed food items for Fish to give to those in need. Sunnyside Mennonite Montessori School: This is a preschool that meets in the church building and uses the Montessori Method. For more information call Chris Cradler at 503-260-6601. Mennonite Disaster Service: Through out the year PMC volunteers at various MDS projects near and far to help those lost homes through a natural disaster. For more information |
