Join us during Advent ...
Advent Workshop & Just Cause Store
December 7 / 10:30 am-12:30 pm
Advent Workshop has a rich tradition here at PMC. Our lower-level is transformed into a holiday workshop, with stations to build gingerbread houses, do some holiday shopping, and create ornaments. Combine all this with the smells of cookies, fresh coffee, hot cider, the sounds of Christmas music, the laughter of children and the smiles of good friends and Advent Workshop is sure to get you in the holiday spirit.
Holiday Hymn Sing
December 22, Sunday School Hour
Join us for a casual and fun gathering to sing through your favorite Advent and Christmas songs in PMC’s lower level. There will be Christmas snacks and drinks!
Longest Night Service
December 21 / 7-8 pm
Join us as we gather for a service of readings, meditative music, silence and prayers. We will bring our grief, sadness and pain, trusting that the darkness cannot overcome the light of Christ's love (John 1.5).
Christmas Eve Service
December 24 / 6:30 pm
Celebrate the birth of the Christ Child with a Service of Lessons and Carols. An offering will be taken to support Mennonite Central Committee’s focus on humanitarian needs in Gaza. The service will end with a candle-lit singing of ‘Silent Night.’

An Advent Devotional
For Portland Mennonite Church
By Caroline Harkins McCarty
I wrote this series of reflections while thinking about wonder, and about where to find it in a season of turmoil or overwhelm. For me this year one source of wonder has been the night sky. I have spent time under dark skies, waiting for wonders that have come (a comet!) or have passed me by (the aurora borealis. Again.) Often I have kept this nocturnal vigil in the company of others, and the sharing of awe has deepened the meaning of the experience. I hope that these devotionals can be another way of sharing wonder and reflection in a season of national uncertainty, Christmas hurry and cheer, and long winter nights.

Advent Giving Tree
Starting December 1, grab a tag (or two) from the Giving Tree in the old chapel and participate in the kingdom of God. This year, our gifts will go toward the work of Family Promise of Metro East, a shelter for homeless families in Portland. We will be creating several baskets that are given to families as they move into permanent housing. Each tag notes one household item. Since the items are small, feel free to take as many tags as you'd like. We can keep adding more tags to the tree as needed and make more baskets. The basket themes include kitchen, bathroom, cleaning and office supplies. Thank you to the Kids Care Club at PMC for helping make the tree happen this year.
