Join us during Advent ...
Advent Workshop & Just Cause Store
December 6 / 10:30 am-12:30 pm
Advent Workshop has a rich tradition here at PMC. Our lower-level is transformed into a holiday workshop, with stations to build gingerbread houses, do some holiday shopping, and create ornaments. Combine all this with the smells of cookies, fresh coffee, hot cider, the sounds of Christmas music, the laughter of children and the smiles of good friends and Advent Workshop is sure to get you in the holiday spirit. Holiday Hymn Sing
December 21, Sunday School Hour
Join us for a casual and fun gathering to sing through your favorite Advent and Christmas songs in PMC’s lower level. There will be Christmas snacks and drinks!
Longest Night Service
December 21 / 7-8 pm
Join us as we gather for a service of readings, meditative music, silence and prayers. We will bring our grief, sadness and pain, trusting that the darkness cannot overcome the light of Christ's love (John 1.5).
Christmas Eve Service
December 24 / 6:30 pm
Celebrate the birth of the Christ Child with a Service of Lessons and Carols. An offering will be taken to support Mennonite Central Committee’s focus on humanitarian needs in Gaza. The service will end with a candle-lit singing of ‘Silent Night.’

An Advent Devotional
For Portland Mennonite Church
By Caroline Harkins McCarty
I began writing these reflections while thinking about how to seek deep rest in a season of long nights and short days. Oregon winter can be hard for me. I miss the sun, and the warmth, and the wildflowers. So much of what I love about life in the Pacific Northwest takes two forms: community, and nature. This year I let our advent reflections be inspired by both.

Advent Giving Tree
Starting November 30, grab a tag (or two) from the Giving Tree in the old chapel and
participate in the kingdom of God. This year, our gifts will go toward the work of Interfaith Movement for Immigrant Justice (IMIrJ), an organization that works to accompany and equip communities and people of faith in Oregon to advance immigrant justice. We will be gathering items to fill the pantry that IMIrJ keeps with supplies for the immigrant families they work with. If you’re lucky, you might be able to take one of the special tags made by PMC’s Middle School Sunday School class.
