LaVonne Blowers (Congregational Life Core Ministry Elder). As Congregational Life Core Ministry Elder, LaVonne’s responsibilities will include encouraging people to interact with each other on a spiritual and social level through small groups, church retreats, congregational care group and Steven Ministry program. LaVonne has been active at PMC for over 30 years. She served on the Congregational Life Committee for 4 years, helped start the Stephen Ministry program and is an advocate for lgbtq+ people at PMC. She retired as an RN in 2017 and now lives on a farm near Molalla. LaVonne and Joe have been married for 46 years, and have 2 adult children, Carrie and Seth.
Lori Nussbaum (Faith Formation Core Ministry Elder). As Faith Formation Elder, Lori’s responsibilities will include supporting and providing a voice for the Faith Formation committees (Faith Formation Core Ministry Team, Children Christian Education Committee, and Adult Christian Education Committee). The Faith Formation Elder engages in Leadership Table discussions in ways that speak to how we nurture the faith of all congregants through the programs of the church, including education, mentoring, and special events. She has been an active participant with Portland Mennonite Church since 2007 and became a member in 2008. She has served on the Facilities Committee and Basement Remodel Committee and been involved with Sunday worship services in various capacities. Lori and her husband Jonathan and daughters Elise (age 9) and Anne (age 6) enjoy playing games, finding humor and being active outside together. In addition to being the primary caregiver for their daughters, she is an interior designer who enjoys creating, reading, learning and being outside. Some of her favorite things about PMC are the opportunities for intergenerational interactions, engaging in meaningful learning and discussion in adult classes and how we individually and collectively listen to others and seek to understand how the gospel message speaks to our daily living.
Colleen Milstein (Chair-Elect). As the Chair Elect, Colleen's responsibilities will include supporting Dave in leading the Leadership Table and working with the Staff Relations Committee. Colleen has been working in international development and mission work with a focus on Africa for the last thirty years. She earned a Bachelor of Theology (BTh) and development in South Africa while immersed in communities experiencing the brunt of apartheid's impact. This experience in her early 20s has shaped her in wanting to see the reality of Jesus and his ways wrestle with complex issues we face in our world today. She completed an MA in Global Development and Justice. She is currently the Executive Director of Loom International. She became a member of PMC about two years ago and deeply values being part of this community.
