Job Description for Interim Pastor of Community Life
Portland Mennonite Church
Purpose: The Interim Pastor of Community Life will help Portland Mennonite Church ‘seek the peace of the city’ by supporting the work of the Congregational Life, Outreach, and Faith Formation Core Ministries.
Essential Tasks:
Congregational Life:
Qualifications: The Interim Pastor of Community Life will be committed to the life and mission of Portland Mennonite Church, as well as the theology and practices of Mennonite Church USA; will preferably have an M.Div. (or other relevant education); will be able to work independently and will collaborate well with the pastors and staff; will be organized, personable, and trustworthy.
Accountability: The Interim Pastor of Community Life will be accountable to the Table; the Lead Pastor will serve as immediate supervisor.
Position: The Interim Pastor of Community Life is a 30 hour per week position that is expected to last 6-9 months, with benefits according to PMC staff policies.

Essential Tasks:
Congregational Life:
- Support the work of Stephen Ministry, including working with Stephen Leaders to make connections between care providers and care receivers.
- Meet with the Small Groups Committee and assist with the implementation of plans.
- Provide staff support to the Women's Retreat.
- Participate in the Congregational Care Group.
- Meet with and support the work of the Congregational Life Core Ministry Team.
- Provide staff support to the PMC committee working to develop a Family Promise family shelter in SE Portland.
- Sustain connections to community partners (e.g. Nightstrike, Street Roots).
- Support Mennonite Central Committee projects at PMC (e.g. school kits, My Coins Count).
- Meet with and support the work of the Outreach Core Ministry Team.
- Work with the Adult Education Committee to organize Sunday classes for winter and spring.
- Meet with and support the Faith Formation Core Ministry Team.
- Assist the staff and Table in the process of re-engaging the congregation in in-person ministries.
- Support the budgeting process in the fall by connecting to committees and Core Ministry Teams.
- Preach occasionally.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and regularly meet with the Lead Pastor.
