Let's grab lunch...Throughout the year, we host welcome luncheons. It’s a time for people who are new to PMC to get to know people who have been around for awhile. Hosted in church members’ homes, it’s a space for casual conversation and enjoying a home-cooked meal. If you’re new (or even if you’ve been around and still looking for ways to connect), we’d love to see you there.
Below are many other ways to meet new people at PMC and make new friends! |
Groups that Meet regularly...
Dorcas' Needles & StitchesWomen meet at Portland Mennonite Church the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 9:30am-12pm to make blankets and comforters for Mennonite Central Committee. These are given to families displaced by war or natural disaster. Newcomers and those new to stitching are welcome.

The Reading GroupThe Reading Group meets once a month and has a pretty robust and free-flowing discussion, usually about theological books (though occasionally we have read fiction). Past titles include 'Burial Rites' (Kent), 'The Divine Dance' (Rohr/Morrell), 'Cross Vision' (Boyd), 'The Benedict Option' (Dreher), 'Reality, Grief, Hope' (Brueggemann), 'Exit West' (Hamid), 'The Future of Faith' (Cox), 'The Wisdom Jesus' (Bourgeault), and others. Contact Rod Stafford in the PMC office if you would like to join the conversation.

Coffee & Conversation GroupThe SE Coffee & Conversation Gathering is a multigenerational drop-in group that meets every Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Papaccino’s, 4411 SE Woodstock Blvd., Portland. This is a great time to have a cup of coffee and get to know other PMCers better, even if you don’t live in SE Portland. Bring the kids along as there is a nice play area to keep them occupied.

Young Adult Sermon Discussion GroupYoung adults! A group of us meet every Sunday after worship for (a free!) lunch and conversation about the sermon. We'd love to have you join us. To find us, head out the doors at the front-right side of the sanctuary, go up the stairs on your left, and we'll be up in the youth room.

Connecting throughout the Year...
Church RetreatOn Mother’s Day weekend (we know, we know…but we get a good deal), we gather for our yearly church retreat at Twin Rocks Friends Camp in Rockaway, Oregon. We like to call it a “woefully unprogrammed weekend with friends.” It’s very fun. Think lots of puzzles, games, hikes (f you’re so inclined), good food and time to get to know people you’ve seen in church on a Sunday morning, but have never been able to meet.

Small GroupsLonger term groups mostly gathering to share a meal and fellowship. Wonderful places of sharing--but it can take a little time for our Small Group Committee to get people placed. We never forget you…so we humbly ask for patience.

Short Term Focus GroupsThese groups start quickly and end quickly! Twice a year, people offer to lead groups doing a variety of activities: going to art festivals, having a drum circle, knitting hats for people living outside, practicing spiritual disciples, and so much more. The activities offered change every time! No matter how new you are to PMC you can offer to lead a group or you can put your name down on a signup sheet and attend one. Usually, groups form early September and early February.

Women’s RetreatIn the fall, we head out to enjoy a weekend away at the oceanfront Harbor Villa Retreat Center in Rockaway. It’s a time to bring your slippers, your favorite novel and your rain jacket for the coziest of all beach retreats. A PMC women’s retreat is not to be missed. Good food, new friendships and ocean walks are the stuff our women’s retreats are made of.
