Stephen Ministry is on Hiatus for Discernment
At PMC, Stephen Ministry has been an important part of the way we have cared for one another for the last seven years. However, PMC’s Stephen Ministry program has hit some road blocks, and will be taking a hiatus for some discernment. This means we will not be able to provide Stephen Ministers for people until we have finished our discernment (anyone who is currently receiving care from a Stephen Minister will continue until their relationship ends naturally). The main difficulty is that the SM program requires a huge amount of volunteer hours to run – and we have struggled to get enough volunteers to keep it going. So, in consultation with PMC pastors and the Leadership Table, we are going to pause the program in order to gather a small group to do some discernment about whether the program is the right fit for both PMC’s needs and resources.

What is Stephen Ministry?
Stephen Ministry is grounded in Jesus’ command to love one another. Through one-to-one caring relationships, those who are hurting or experiencing transitions receive the love and care they need to support them.
Everyone goes through difficult times. Having someone to care, to listen, and to share God’s love with you can help you get through the confusion, stress or loneliness you may be experiencing.

How does the referral process work?
Upon learning that someone is in need of Christian care through Stephen Ministry, one of our Stephen Leaders will discuss the details with the individual. If warranted, they will then assign a Stephen Minister to meet with the person on a regular basis.
