Join us during Advent ...
Advent Workshop & Just Cause Store
December 2 / 10:30 am-noon
Advent Workshop has a rich tradition here at PMC. Our lower-level is transformed into a holiday workshop, with stations to build gingerbread houses, do some holiday shopping, and create ornaments. Combine all this with the smells of cookies, fresh coffee, hot cider, the sounds of Christmas music, the laughter of children and the smiles of good friends and Advent Workshop is sure to get you in the holiday spirit.
‘Is that right?’
December 15 / 7:00-8:00 pm
Frans and Kathy van der Horst will present an evening of stories and songs. The event is free. Contributions to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) are welcome. (The performance will be streamed on our PMC YouTube channel.) (Not recommended for children under 12.)
Holiday “Living Room” Hymn Sing
December 16, 6:30pm
Join us for a casual and fun gathering to sing through your favorite Advent and Christmas songs in PMC’s lower level “living room.” There will be Christmas snacks and drinks!
Longest Night Service
December 21 / 7-8 pm
Join us as we will gather for a service of readings, meditative music, silence and prayers. We will bring our grief, sadness and pain, trusting that the darkness cannot overcome the light of Christ's love (John 1.5).
Christmas Eve
December 24 / 6:30 pm
Celebrate the birth of the Christ Child with a Service of Lessons and Carols. An offering will be taken to support Mennonite Central Committee’s focus on humanitarian needs in Gaza. The service will end with a candle-lit singing of ‘Silent Night.’

Advent Devotional – PMC Common Read
This year’s Advent Devotional resource comes from MennoMedia – The Holy in the Night: Finding Freedom in a Season of Waiting by Shannon W. Dycus. Shannon has been a Mennonite pastor and spiritual director, and currently works as Vice President and Dean of Students at Eastern Mennonite University. She draws on scripture and the voices of Black and Brown modern-day prophets to give voice to the freedom, grace, struggle, and beauty of Advent, helping us see again the ways that God emerges in this inward season. Stay tuned for ways that we will engage and connect around these readings together.
We’ll have copies you can pick up in the church office starting Nov. 26 for a suggested donation of $10-15.

Advent Giving Tree
Starting December 3, grab a tag (or two) from the Giving Tree in the old chapel and participate in the kingdom of God. This year our gifts will be going toward the work of Street Roots. Street Roots is a local organization in Portland that publishes a weekly social justice newspaper sold by people experiencing homelessness and poverty to earn an income. Over the years, PMC has connected with Street Roots in various ways, including sales of their paper every Sunday morning. Some examples of items we will collect: hand warmers, warm gloves, winter hats, rain ponchos, and sleeping bags.
