ABOUT RODRod has served as Lead Pastor at Portland Mennonite Church since 1999. He went to Seminary not planning to be a Mennonite or a minister, but the Spirit works in its own way. He grew up in the central valley of California, went to Berkeley where he graduated with a degree in Political Science, and earned a Master of Divinity degree at Fuller Theological Seminary. He has served churches in Pasadena, California and Lawrence, Kansas. Rod and his wife Molly have two daughters, Julia and Laura, and live in NE Portland. Rod likes to ride bike, eat good food, hike in the mountains, and do the Sunday crossword with Molly.

ABOUT CURTCurt grew up in Pennsylvania and attended Eastern Mennonite University before serving three years in Swaziland with Mennonite Central Committee. He received an MA in Christian Formation from Anabaptist Mennonite Theological Seminary before moving to Oregon in 2007 as a leader for Service Adventure, a program of Mennonite Mission Network and began serving at PMC in 2009. Curt lives in Oak Grove OR with his wife Karin and their two children, Jonathan and Chloe. He enjoys Saturday morning yard sales and a good cup of coffee.

ABOUT KRISTENKristen joined the PMC pastoral team in the fall of 2022. She grew up in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and then attended Eastern Mennonite University to study music and liberal arts. After graduating, she spent a year working with Mennonite Central Committee in Bolivia. She lived in Oklahoma City for seven years, first working on a masters in flute performance and then performing and teaching music. She also conducted children’s orchestras with the El Sistema Oklahoma program. She studied for an MDiv at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary with a concentration in Theology and Peace Studies. Kristen is married to Luis Tapia Rubio, and they are enjoying getting to know Portland. Kristen loves finding interesting recipes to cook, hanging out with friends over coffee or dinner, and reading sci-fi novels.

ABOUT MICHAELMichael was born and raised in Oregon. His grandparents owned the Uptown Tavern and bowling alley in Newport, and his Uncle Rick Bartow would sing and play guitar, inspiring Michael to start singing with bands and songwriting at a young age. Michael has Volunteered for many years as “Music Man” for “Camp KC” a week long summer camp for children whose families are affected by HIV, and spent 22 years in bank operations prior to joining the PMC staff. Michael has a grown daughter DJ, is married to Chris Barghout, and loves to travel.
