TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

Rent Well Classes
A Rent Well class provides a future tenant with useful skills such as budgeting, landlord communication strategies, tenant rights, etc. Each class lasts several weeks, totaling 15-18 hours, and provides a certificate of completion.  Having the certificate often gives an applicant an edge over other applicants and landlords sometimes get financial incentives for accepting Rent Well graduates.  Some agencies provide Rent Well classes to their clients, but two locations that offer classes to the general public are listed below:

Honored Citizen -  For riders who are:
  • Low income 
  • Below double the poverty line.  (Approx. $2000 a month for a single adult.)
  • Or receive OHP, SNAP or TANF benefits. (Must show proof of income.)
  • Age 65+ and/or 
  • Receive Medicare and/or Disabled (disability must be verifiable by a doctor)

TRIMET

Community Warehouse is a local, nonprofit furniture bank that collects and redistributes donated household goods and furnishings to neighbors in need.

Items available include: mattresses, kitchen table and chairs, armchairs, sofas, desks, dressers, shelves, lamps, clocks, linens, dishes, pots/pans, and more…
They prefer you be referred from a designated referral agency. But if you do not have an agency, ask to speak with the in-house case manager who may be able to assist you in obtaining an appointment. 
Cost is $50. 
Bring your own truck and people to help you load the items.  Or delivery is available for $200.

Free Phone
If you receive gov’t funding, such as SSI, food stamps, TANF or OHP, you may be eligible for a free phone that includes 350-500 minutes and unlimited texts.
 
Apply at lifeline.oregon.gov and click on “I want free Lifeline service” or you may mail in an application that can be printed from the website or this web address: www.puc.state.or.us/rspf/otapappnpf.pdf.
If you don’t have internet access, you can Call Lifeline at 800-848-4442 to have an application mailed to you.  After you’ve applied and been approved, a phone will then be mailed to you.
 
Note: When you apply, you will need to provide an address where the phone may be mailed, but you cannot use an address that has already been used by another customer.  If you use a multiple-person mailing address, such as TPI or a shelter, you will need to complete a Household Worksheet along with your application. Call the Oregon’s Lifeline Administration at (800) 848-4442 to have that form emailed or mailed to you.  Then mail in that form along with a printed application (see above) to Oregon Public Utility Commission PO Box 1088, Salem, OR 97308-1088 or fax to 877-567-1977.

Mental Health
​A New Day Counseling Center which is part of Western Seminary. They work with adolescents and adults with student trainees
and licensed therapists. The students fee is $20. Their phone number is: 503 517-1895. You can check out their website at: www.anewdaycounseling.org.They do not work with insurance but provide “superbills’ for insurance purposes. They are at 1511 SE Hawthorne Blvd.
