Week Six:
Transitions, Decisions, PMC's response to Climate Change
Transitions, Decisions, PMC's response to Climate Change
We will be reflecting on the questions below and will discuss how the Justice Committee and PMC will move forward on this topic.
- How do the traditional Mennonite values of Simplicity, Peacemaking, Justice and Community relate to climate change?
- How do they motivate and guide us in responding to climate change?
- How do they contrast with the dominant culture? How is climate change (and other environmental problems) a result of our culture, economy and technology?
- Are there Mennonite beliefs that need to change to address climate change? Moving forward: How do we create a (counter) culture at PMC based on Mennonite values?
- What are the realities that get in the way of our aspirations?
- What transition points are you facing? Does the Mennonite perspective require people to think deeply about the environmental and social impacts of each purchase they make, each technology they adopt, each activity they pursue, etc.? Is it possible to do so?
