Stephen Ministry is a one-to-one, confidential, Christ-centered ministry of care and concern for people who are in the midst of grief, loss or pain.
Last February, Stephen Obold Eshleman, Karen Nussbaum, Deb Coates, David Johnson, and Rod Stafford attended a week of training in Anaheim, California to lead this new ministry at PMC. In May, thirteen people began training to become Stephen Ministers. Deb Coates, Harold Nussbaum, Don Coates, Connie Brown, Linda Rush, Lisa Hughes, John Hill, Joleen Classen, Bruce Harder, Ruth Nisly, Kelsey Knight-King, Stephen Obold Eshleman, Alice Hill, Karen Nussbaum, Linda Smith, and Barb Roupp have completed fifty hours of preparation. These Stephen Ministers will be assigned to people in our congregation and community who are experiencing hospitalization, retirement, financial setback, the loss of a loved one, or any of the other challenges that are part of our lives. They will meet weekly with their ‘care receiver’ for as long as is needed to listen, pray, support, and offer encouragement. In addition, each Stephen Minister will participate regularly in peer supervision and continuing education. CONTACT INFORMATION: If you would like to meet with a Stephen Minister, please contact one of our pastors – Rod Stafford, Britt Carlson or Curt Weaver. You can also contact one of the Stephen Leaders – Stephen, Karen, Deb or David. Or simply call the PMC office (503/234-0559).
