Film: The Sultan and the Saint Nov 16 / 7 PMThere was a time when two men, a Muslim and a Christian, who might have been enemies, opened their hearts to each other in pursuit of peace. A new film tells the true story of Saint Francis of
Assisi and the Sultan of Egypt, Muhammad al-Kamil, who defied their cultures and met in 1219, during the height of the Crusades. The Portland premiere of this award-winning docudrama will take place on Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Muslim Educational Trust center (10330 S.W. Scholls Ferry Road, in Tigard). The doors will open at 6:30 pm, the film will begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets, $10 for adults and $5 for students, are available online at www.metpdx.org and at the door. Any questions, contact Rod Stafford in the PMC office. PMC kids worked all summer on learning the songs to the musical Down by the Creek Bank and on Sunday evening, October 29 thier practice paid off. They gave the audience a wonderful show.
Thank you to Dianna, Susan, Ryan, Kris, Megan and Molly for making this happen! About 45 brave souls showed up at Abba's Garden on Saturday October 21 for Pumpkins for Peace. Don Coates had his cider press running and the kids enjoyed craving pumpkins. One child commented about the rain, "It was better this way!" Now that's the spirit.
