Friends of Portland Mennonite Church,
Recently a group of us from PMC hosted a small group of our Muslim neighbors from the Bosnian mosque on SE Foster (the Bosniaks Educational and Cultural Organization - BECO). We had met once before when they had hosted us at their facility. We were glad to welcome them to our meetinghouse. To give them a sense of our Mennonite identity we had a potluck; Linda Rush even made a shoo fly pie. We talked a little about what it means for us to follow Jesus. Lisa Hughes talked about her time with Mennonite Central Committee in Central America and Africa; Casey Fast talked about the Hiking Club. And we had a gift for them - what could be more fitting than a hand-quilted wall hanging (thanks Alice Hill!). By the end of the evening we were talking about taking on a shared project for the good of our city. We haven't settled on a project yet, but I'll be sure to let you know.
